Anke PfannkuchenAnke is the manager at The Gym@CDU. She ran her own business in Germany as a sport psychologist and puts her strength and conditioning coaching skills to use in Darwin's AFL teams.

A little about me…

I grew up in the former GDR (the Russian sector of Germany before the iron curtain fell). Not being able to purchase everything we’re so used to today, like fast food, soft drinks, phones and computers turned me into a creative problem solver rather than a good consumer. I was hooked to sport from the age of 16 and since then it has been a huge part of my life. I couldn’t think of anything that is more important to me, apart from my partner of course and my solid sense of humour.

What I love about fitness and health is…

My approach to fitness…

I find it fascinating to understand how a body works, how to deconstruct a movement and how to progress most efficiently. Progressing people to their very own capacity is something I find extremely rewarding. It is really cool to see the moment when it clicks and people understand what they are doing and why.

My hidden talents…

I like playing the blues harp, I'd like to practice more and become better at it.

My specialty…

I try to see the whole picture wherever I am and whatever I'm doing. Understanding the world around me, rather than wandering around with a tunnel view has been a strong driving force throughout my entire life. And yes, I’m a workaholic nerd when it comes to learning new things.

  • Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science (current 2nd year student)
  • Cert III and IV in Fitness
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment
  • Level 1 strength and conditioning coach

  • Level 1 swimming and water safety instructor

  • 13 years modern sports karate, kickboxing and boxing (state squad)
  • 5 years rock climbing and mountaineering in Europe, North and South America
  • 3 expeditions canoeing in Peru’s Amazon region for 3 months each

Access guildlines
